I have been examining the notion of 'style' in relation to illustration, with the primary aim to develop a visual language in my own practice.
I define style as something from within we then transmit in our own way. This can be in the concepts we choose to approach or in the creative method we use.
The 'style' I developed fits within the 3D realm of illustration, making props and models to be photographed. It is the ability to create my own tangible abstract world which I enjoy about this method of illustration. I like to work this way because of the visual possibilities to create a 360-degree view around the object. When it's photographed I can capture the depth of the space and the shadows from the light, making the 2D image stronger.
The two pieces of work on display were both created for the publication 'OWT creative', which I am part of. One is the finished piece and the other is in its model form.
Alice Through The Looking Glass – Reaction to the theme 'Differences'. The masks refer to different of parts of the world that is "behind the looking glass". The mirrors getting smaller, the people are chess pieces and the time goes backward.
Useless Chemistry – Reaction to the theme 'Science'. A Paper chemistry set, which has no purpose.
