Title: Internet Wind
This project incorporates nine data driven devices which respond to realtime information delivered to them as a result of the changing environmental conditions in a remote location. The data is attained from two sensors located in a physical environment in the suburban surroundings of Greater Manchester - one sensor measuring wind speed, the other determining its direction. This data is streamed as a live data feed across the internet and into the gallery space.
When the breeze triggers the remote sensors the devices begin to spin and sway in synchronisation - controlled by the force of the corresponding virtual breeze that blows through the gallery space. The project explores the aesthetics of telecommunications and simulations of telepresence, whilst questioning our perception or space and the rationalisation of physical distance through the internet.
