Material Absence
My work stems from a passion for travel and the collecting of material culture. This extraction of the exterior world into the interior world, for me, interweaves the diverse threads of our species, helping to hold memory in the moving landscape of our time. Research into the collection, the souvenir and the root of domestic consumption has been central to my overall explorations. The artworks proposed for exhibition explore the fragility of the human condition through a series of portraits. Each portrait derives from the narratives of objects belonging to close family members and each metaphorically deals with the passage of time and loss of content.
