Jordan Allan-Alberts MA Design: Textile Practice
I am a mixed media textile practitioner with a keen interest in using abstraction and metaphors to explore taboo subjects like mental health. Over the past two years, I have been exploring how to develop a visual language that communicates these difficult subjects in ways that we can't with words. I have been inspired my studies around colour psychology, scientific theories about the causes of mental health illnesses and a diverse collection of other practitioners, artists and designers to create work.
My latest project has been focused on using my own experience with anxiety, and my keen interest in the representation of intangible subject matters to explore how a feeling might be used to create a visual anchor to thoughts and emotions that are often elusive and hard to explain with words. This project has also worked as my own form of therapy and has been an illuminating journey to explore and analyse how I experience anxiety.
