Lilly Eavy
MA/MSc Textiles
I am a textile designer (EAVY STUDIO) specialising in handcrafts; macrame, weave, natural dyeing and material innovation, using materials such as rope, rubber, plastic. My design philosophy is proactively pushing boundaries by exploring relationships of traditional handcrafts fused within the modern world of fashion, the economy’s rapid consumption and material waste problems by following a 0% waste circular system. I repurpose waste materials, positively re-evaluating our relationship with them. To upcycle everyday unwanted/ discarded materials, also deadstock, second-hand materials from existing garments and transform them through processes of cutting, binding, knotting, dyeing, coating and sewing.
My textiles reflect how waste materials can be repurposed into something new while previous life of the materials gives each piece connection with material, maker and wearer. Embodying the importance of keeping handcraft skills alive for future generations and embraces them in modern form, weaving a world of past and present both metaphorically and physically.
My latest collection ‘Crafted Utopia’ highlights positive values of slow well-made fashion, a sense of luxury redefined in a modern world where everything’s getting faster. Sustainable craftmanship should become more important, a chance for people and the environment to breathe, regenerate and appreciate. To mesh the old and new- tradition and trend - sustainable and fashion, creating garments that are a direct reflection of these values. I craft my story through textiles to encourage sustainable fashion for a reimagined utopian future.
