I believe there’s a necessary bravery required to access a painting. I’m specifically interested in how a paintings’ energy, edges and agency come together to place painting in this ‘other’ place, setting or realm, that requires this ‘granted access’. Acting like a material of immateriality, in order to work best with it when making, I think more about what the painting can offer me over what I require from it.
