My practice has a strong focus on structure, utilising design and image making as a vehicle to exploring themes such as the human condition and structures of information. The work presented to you, ‘Reconfiguration’, which aside from aptly being the last project I completed on my course underlines perfectly why I do what I do, both my approach to design and where my passion stems from. A project that went off on tangents and an outcome that wouldn’t have been possible without an incredulously bumpy journey. A journey of ideas not being realised (due to time constraints and employing a highly critical approach), print production failing at points, a wide range of inputs from people, and moments of experimentations.
Without many external factors unexpectedly coming into play and greatly influencing the project, the final outcomes wouldn’t have matched my own personal expectations for the project.
So, although I’ve produced a project of a hundred-something strong prints it wouldn’t have been possible if not for pushing myself to take advantage of all available resources as much as possible, if not for a belief in my vision and pushing though the many failings along the way to continually move the project up and forward, if not for various people’s input throughout the project, and all-in-all these aspects and the impact they had on the project produced something so unexpected and so much better than I had planned for prior to printing.
