Kirsty Appleton MA Contemporary Curating
Hi, I'm Kirsty. I am an MA Contemporary Curating student living in Manchester.
Throughout both my undergraduate degree (BA Art History) and my postgraduate study I have had a keen interest in commemoration, culture, and their relationship to arts institutions. During the process of my masters, my research has centred on ideas of curating and commemorating with a direct focus on outdoor display on university campuses.
My Major Project essay, entitled 'Contemporary Commemoration on UK University Campuses' explored the notion of public displays of commemoration and memorial in Manchester's university spaces and beyond.
This research fed into my curatorial practice and editorial work for Manchester Metropolitan University's commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the 5th Pan-African Congress in October 2020. For this series of events I developed a public exhibition and exhibition catalogue.
