Portals is a series of pieces based around escapism. Using my own chronic illness as inspiration and a guide of how being bedridden can make a person feel lonely and stuck. With this in mind, I wanted to create pieces that aided the mental wellbeing of someone in this situation. Using a mix of papercutting, natural finds, resin and cement, the pieces to bring to life a portal to look into and escape to another world.
Each piece is representative of nature, and the therapeutic effects of a walk in the countryside. Using my own therapeutic papercutting process combined with items found on nature walks, these elements are embedded within cement and resin to create pieces that become portals for my imagination, allowing the audience to briefly glimpse into my other worlds.
