Cherisse Appleby MA Design: Craft
Mental illness is an important topic in today’s society affecting 1 in 4 people. Within my practice I have investigated the science behind schizophrenia and how this can be translated through the materiality of glass. Research and exploration of this medium has provided me with the ability to utilise its components and connect these to the changes within the brain and the cells related to mental health conditions. My primary aim is to communicate and provide an insight of mental illness which can impact anyone at any given time. I endeavour to promote awareness and dispel some of the stigma surrounding this subject matter with engaging glasswork, installations and educational workshops.
