Jill Ritter

This project is a collaboration between Camilla Jahren Andresen (from Norway) and Jill Ritter (from Germany). Camilla is studying for her Masters in Textiles while Jill is focussing on MA Graphic Design and Art Direction. We have based our project on Norwegian knitting traditions and the 4-station methodology of NEA MACHINA, a book by the Poschauko brothers. The 4 station methodology is a working method where we are using 4 stations: The head for the thinking, the gut for the intuitive part, the hand for the making and the computer for the digital work. Within two projects we are discovering our collaborative work and evolving another station, which we are introducing in our book "Ech(k)te Kontraste(r)"

Project 1 is about our historical background: Germany occupied Norway in the second world war. So we decided to take an every day object and to transform it through Camillas knittings, which shows symbolically the relationship between Germany and Norway. Project 2 is about the question "how far can we take the knitting?"

Camilla learned how to knit with her fingers, she tried how to knit with her arms and with wooden twigs. we thought about knitting as a performance. Could we create a collaborative work throughout different parts of the world by performing the fingerknit with different people from different countries?

It was an exciting project for us both and we will definitely continue working collaboratively. As well with other people. Furthermore our Methodology will be an inherent part of our working life.
