Take a yarn, knit a length, wind and drape, was my initial concept. Experimenting with yarns and techniques on the domestic knitting machine, I was able to create a fabric that draped beautifully. Creating a palette of colours that I love, was my starting point. Blue and orange were obvious choices. Adding a pop of yellow into the mix with lime green, coral, peach and rust blended or fought back, giving my African look. The Frill of It capsule collection became a bold statement embracing my “what if” methodology. Having a playful approach to my knitting took away any inhibitions allowing for creativity to take over. Building a collection and pieces to treasure rather than wear it once and throw away, was always my priority. Wool with its biodegradability, breathability and tactile quality was the perfect choice for my knitted pieces. Colour has always been exciting to me, and I have never been afraid to use bold colour combinations in my work. Developing my colour preferences and pushing the boundaries of traditional knitting is now what my work is all about, showing that anything is possible.
