Rejecting the rulebook
By rejecting the rulebook of traditional textile design, my work challenges the notion that we must conform to a particular order, rules and ideals set by society.
Inspired by postmodernism, this collection explores no rules design by going against the traditional pattern repeat, mass production and measurements to create one off pieces that blur the line between art and textiles.
Through layering print and embroidery to create a multi sensory palette, my work aims to remove the restriction of the pattern repeat and produce outcomes that have no set orientation or predetermined end use. Using embroidery as an artists tool to doodle, with no forward planning allowed me to create freely and embrace imperfection with no preconceived idea of the end result.
Creating in the moment allowed me to treat the fabric as an individual piece, rejecting the commercial process and upholding my belief that there is no right or wrong way to make art.
