MA Painting
I am interested in trying to get to know paint. My practice centres the process of painting and the idea of having an interaction with the medium. When painting, I often find myself deep in the unknown- navigating the image as I paint, exploring the ambiguity of the boundaries between form and space. I watch as form evolves into space, into planes of colour, into form again. A push and pull between familiarity and unfamiliarity. This voyage, or rather the outcome of it, is the paintings character, and is what keeps me chasing an idea from one painting through to the next. I question my own position in relation to the work when faced with the painting’s physicality, interested in how the body and the mind relate to the painting, both as an object, and as a sensation. I find joy in the tactility of the object, and intention in trying to manipulate this sensation into something interesting, balanced, unknown, beautiful, or somewhere in-between.
