MA Graphic Design and Art Direction
I am an art director and graphic designer specialising in the fashion and publishing industries. My work focuses on the experimentation and amalgamation of digital and physical methods such as printmaking and bookbinding.
For my final project, I created and art directed the photoshoot concept 'Renaissance Rave’. This is a selection of prints from the high fashion editorial, including garments designed by Charlie Orr-Ewing. Inspired by Elaine Constantine and Ferdinando Verderi, this shoot is a chaotic, modern-day interpretation of a Renaissance-era party, photographed by Alan Ward.
It is accompanied by a hardback book showcasing the photographs, as well as featuring Renaissance poetry quotations and lyrics from Beyoncé Knowles-Carter’s album ‘RENAISSANCE’. The poetry demonstrates a harsh contrast to the contemporary lyrics’ celebration of female sexual desires, in addition to the absence of black or queer female figures in the Renaissance era but also throughout history.
