Contigo : Wandering with a purpose
Dementia is an umbrella term for a group of conditions caused by limited blood circulations in the brain. It is caused by damage to or loss of nerve cells and their connections to the brain. Besides intellectual deficits, individuals living with dementia are often affected by changes in mood, energy, and social behaviour. Their behavior and ability to perform daily living activities are affected significantly by a reduction in cognitive performance.
This project aims to create a community space for people dealing with dementia and their families to better know the disease and make them aware of what their loved one is dealing with. My idea was to design a drop-in Centre for them, where there is no clock, somewhere they can stay as long as they like and visit often as they want. I wanted to develop a community that reassures the person with the disability that they can enjoy life, by being supportive and positive and doing their best to help the person retain dignity and self-respect.
