Sophie Walker
Throughout my practice, I have drawn inspiration from the beauty of neglected walls and floors, through patchwork. My work is intuitive and organic, sewing printed and plain fabrics together to create quilt tops for various uses. I focus on process and use my extensive quilting knowledge to create original pieces.
I visualise patterns in everyday life, translating them into my work. The London Road Project, based on the London Road Fire Station in Manchester, has influenced these particular pieces of work. This has provided me with textures and patterns for my patchwork and quilting. I wanted to represent the corners of a once thriving and busy working and living space.
