Emily Gerrard
I am a designer, with a passion for printing and a DIY ethos. Under the pseudonym SANS, I am in the process of building my own business and creative studio.
My practice is focused around analogue and handmade processes, working alongside collection and archive. I have been investigating ways to illustrate the value of limited edition products through challenging digital technologies and mass production. I take inspiration from past movements that rebelled against what preceded them, adopting a post-modern approach, influenced by movements such as Punk and Pop Art.
A lot of my work celebrates imperfections found between repeated forms, exploring repetitive processes and commenting on mass production in a now largely digital climate. I try to highlight individuality between objects through using handmade techniques, which I feel have energy and a personality that some digital methods cannot achieve.
