Dominique Fletcher
MA Graphic Design and Art Direction
Dominique Fletcher’s research specialism is centred around the book as a creative form. Her research-led practice explores the relationship between the physicality of the book, the reader and the book as a collaborative space. As platforms for communication develop, Fletcher's research explores the potential of the physical book to communicate. Her process includes building close creative partnerships between herself and guest collaborators to construct multifaceted and immersive reader experiences.
‘and hold’
and hold is a practical research outcome by book designer, Dominique Fletcher and choreographer, Bridget Fiske. The works explore the physical act of reading and being ‘in action’. In collaboration, the pair choreographed the book to act as a score that heightens the awareness of the reader's movement and action.
The accompanying short film is Fiske’s interpretation of the works via the art of dance. Post-reading, the participant is presented with an opportunity to reflect and make connections between the film and their own kinetic reading experience.
