I am an artist creating moving image work about place and belonging. I'm particularly interested in urban envrionments in transition, and how cultural memory is then brought into focus.
“Drinking in a Pub” is an explorative moving image piece investigating urban memory, politics of place and auto-biography. Using the site of the demolished Wigan Arms pub in Salford, the work presents a protagonist re-enacting memories and actions where the pub was situated, before becoming a car park and now empty land awaiting development on the outskirts of Manchester city centre.
The perimeter of the “pub” is traversed, and then we enter a world of nostalgia and cultural recall (in itself a performative act). The reverie of conversation, community, and “lost” music come together to create an intersection of worlds in stasis, not past, not present, and not future.
