This year I wanted to explore a new area of womenswear. Over the past two years I have become increasingly passionate about animal rights and strongly believe that humans need not rely on animals for fashion. I wanted to research why people wore animal skins originally, this lead to design techniques, pattern and a more modern realisation that there is no real need for animal products in the fashion and textiles industry, whether that be the entire skin or even the by-product of an animal. Moving forward with this way of thinking it is becoming clearer to myself each day that vegan fashion can soon become a readily attainable product, and not just a luxury. The rise of animal rights is ongoing, and rather than stay a niche market, it may soon be time for Vegan fashion to rise and move forward alongside it.
