Oliver Crabtree

MA Textile Practice

My practice focuses on the relationships between maleness, effeminacy and the body, with a ripple of naff bad taste running through objects, surfaces and images that speak in a language of deviant bodily qualities and the satire of stereotypes.

Typically I find myself drawn to series of threes. This pattern, emerging most clearly during the masters, allows me to organise concepts into ambiguous, polyvalent assemblages.

As a multidisciplinary visual artist, my practice focuses on otherness through a queer lens. I explore ideas here using elements of queer theory, LGBT Taxonomical structures, binarism and the body viewed through the gay/queer gaze.
