The objective of this project is to respond positively to the landscape vulnerabilities of Wigg Island, Runcorn generated by its susceptibility to unpredictable flooding events and a neglected programming of surface.
Various processes and systems solutions have been tested through research and physical modelling, resulting in a proposal for hybrid surface layers and linkages between existing isolated fragments of biocentric ecologies, and their integration into anthropocentric infrastructures.
The contested and imagined wilderness of the site and its relationship with the tidal waters of the Mersey is a key element in the reprogramming process, which provides opportunities for the dynamic juxtaposition of human activities and biological processes.
