My master project deals with narrative mechanisms in editorial design and how they enable us to create visual translations for stories that enhance the reading experience and give additional value to the content. In this context I reflected on the role of the designer as a special link between author and reader, while also filling both of these roles at the same time.
A central aspect of the project is the relation between text and image, especially how text can work as an image and images as text. In order to explore this I created a book that includes a range of visual interpretations from typographic and text-based designs to image driven chapters. By reconstructing the given stories, based on the underlying thoughts and continuous motives, the book provides the opportunity to reflect on reading experiences in general as well as the influence of the design and the designer.
