My main interest lies in exploring light and the effect it has on a person’s mood and environment. During my studies I set out to make captivating lighting pieces which use reflection, refection and shadow to create engaging and inviting spaces. I want to give users the ability to manipulate and change products as often as they wish, forming an emotional connection to a piece as individual as they are. My final project has focused on children’s lighting, creating a sensory lamp which invites children to explore colour mixing and shadow play in an immersive surrounding.
I have always taken inspiration from the subversive use of materials, and products which serve a dual purpose. I believe design should be both practical and beautiful. My work relies on traditional craft and hand finishing to give each piece its own unique narrative. I want to create work with an emotional and physical durability people can cherish, unlike the mass produced market.
