Caroline Pratt
Caroline Pratt is a print designer driven by a strong appreciation for colour and bold composition. Grounded in her love for the natural world, her work seeks to question the relationship between our biophilic experiences of nature and personal wellbeing.
Flourish : Fade is a collection of printed interior textile and wallpaper designs which explore the role surface pattern may play in promoting a greater connection between the inhabitant and the natural world.
Investigating the transient qualities of nature, shifts in natural light, shadows and seasonal change; Flourish : Fade consists of a four key concepts each of which is used to develop a series of designs that explore characteristics and atmospheres present within nature at different times of the year. Exploring the relationship between the decorative and the minimal; the four groups work their way from flourishing, full floral designs through to fragmented and abstracted prints with a focus on space and simplicity.
Parallels between natural sequences and textile repeat structure are playfully explored and industry frameworks and specifications are reinterpreted to mirror natures rhythms and used to drive forward the design development process, allowing not only the consumer but also the designer to heighten their engagement with the natural world. Predominately working with seasonal floral forms and purposely embracing the imperfections of analogue processes such as paper-cut, mark making and simple drawn line to create designs suitable for the interior market.
