“Behind the words and movements, imperturbable withdrawn slumbered a strange smouldering power.”
-Henry Brocken
My intent has been to explore the interplay between an object and its milieu- how the environment creates an impact on the object. In reflecting its character, the background lends the object an identity.
Starting with a technique that straddles photography and design, I approached flat-styling using abstraction, disproportion and displacement. Applying these to a theatrical setting, I arrived at several variations - exploring its complexities, delving into its intricacies. The ensuing journey has helped me carve a graphic language, which assimilates impressions, as much as it stays true to my essence as an artist.
In challenging the mundane, I have endeavoured to create a visual environment that narrates a story, with a keen awareness of space and depth. The goal is for the viewer to fill into these interpretive blanks-What is beyond this? How can it integrate with their imagination?
