For What It’s Worth

Colour Series in Red

The For What It’s Worth Side Tables are inspired by a personal collection of hand knotted textile pieces. This artisanal craft inspired the visual language of each piece and led us to question the value we place on workmanship. The tables debate the hierarchy of craft and its perception as a status symbol. Challenging the practicality of objects, we question whether function or conceptual value has greater worth.

The new colour series in red, encourages our interaction with materials and explores our perceptions of colour through two contrasting materials and processes. Marquetry is a craft with long held historical gravitas - the tops are assembled using a single coloured wooden veneer to create subtle tonal changes as the viewer moves around the piece. In contrast, the legs are cast as solid wax crayons:

“the box of twelve crayons we are given to draw with when we are small children shapes our perception for better of for worse.”
