My research this year has focused on several key aspects; expanded narratives, micro animation, experimental books as well as the role of modern illustrators. Intrigued by the potential for new technology I have incorporated design writing into my practice, composing a speculative report on books which might sit between the traditional physical book and the e-book. Overall I have created a body of illustrated research to explore the role of the illustrator in conjunction with future books, producing animated illustrations around the short story ‘Click Clack the Rattlebag’ by Neil Gaiman, the premise being to produce both a report on the impact of new book technology while also producing illustration work that would complement the book if the idea was brought to fruition. I have explored illustration techniques using both traditional and digital painting, experimentation with each medium informing the way I manipulated the other.
