Situated in the gently sloping valley between Natland and Brigsteer, to the south of Kendal, exists the uneconomic land use of grazed fields that border the River Kent. I am responding to the potential opportunities of large amounts of rainfall in this location by integrating the need for housing provision with a sustainable and economic response to water. This will be achieved through a harmonious relationship between the anthropocentric and biocentric systems, to create a place of great value to people and to the greater ecology, promoting wellbeing, wildlife and the value of water.
The principles of the absorption and retention of water in this design can alleviate the effects of extreme weather on a potentially global scale, by providing a supply of water in times of low rainfall locally, nationally or internationally in an industrious and profitable way. Following these principals also helps to manage flood risk.
