Rose Hill
My work explores the subjects of memory and familial relationships, both the personal and the domestic. I am fascinated by what makes us who we are and how much of that information can relate to the locality of spaces.
Rose Hill is an exploration of familial memory through a specific place, using varied media's to inspire and inform the work I explore how we attempt to forever retain a sense of place, focusing us upon our attachments to it. I question the feelings one can have towards a space that are based upon memories, is it truly a safe place of comfort because we remember happy times there? Whilst considering the eventual reality of the future that one day that space will become a place we can no longer visit, what happens to the memories then? Without being able to experience the place with all senses do the memories become less vivid?
In many respects Rose Hill is reflective of my own reluctance to move on, refusing to accept the change forced upon myself, clinging onto what I feel is my last domestic connection to childhood.
