Katherine Canty
As an auteur filmmaker, I am interested in all aspects of the filmmaking process. Outside of the set, I consider scriptwriting and editing to be particularly fundamental steps in my personal approach as a director.
My work is performance driven and I enjoy working very closely with actors in order to create the 'inner life' which links them with their character.
I am fascinated with the possibilities of subtle expression which the medium of film presents. Stanley Kubrick said 'the truth of a thing is the feel of it, not the think of it'. I approach my work with this idea in mind.
In my MA film, Et In Arcadia Ego, I have endeavoured to use the language of film to connect my audience with the story through their own intuition and interpretation. Taking place for the most part before sparse backdrops, the characters are visually isolated from one another to allow the audience to view them under their own personal moral microscope.
