It starts with a river

I describe myself as a socially engaged artist, who makes 'live' readings - experienced in the moment. I am exploring the use of discourse to create a new space for marginalised groups.

This work builds on the research by Betty G Russell (1991) Silent Sisters – A study of homeless women which prompted my question – 'where do homeless women go?' As a confluence of values, women's stories are mapped onto the catchment of the river where they live. The themes of 'use and abuse' are explored through a 'narrative mapping' – the stories less told by voices less heard.

Taken into schools, community groups and organisations, this peripatetic reading seeks to develop universal themes.

I am part of the Life Friendly Collective
