Hugo Pineda
My work is an expression of my emotional response to beauty.
The starting point for my practice has been the need to create a tangible record of the impressions created by that response, keeping current and relevant what to others has become history. This has developed in me an obsession with beauty and memories.
My work is primarily the fusion of cloth with skills, crafts and techniques associated with Haute Couture. It relies on slow handcrafted processes such as embroidery, and the creation of trims. Cloth remains my medium of choice. The sense of intimacy afforded by handwork, is further enhanced by cloth's versatility and potential to be cut, stitched, and moulded.
