The key elements of my study focus on the analysis of imagery displayed within publications about brassband music and its culture. This reflects my interest in photographic portrayal in wider culture and particularly with the possibility of a contemporary aesthetic in portraiture.

I believe that, the image of brass culture is in dire need of modernisiation. As a member of the movement for over 10 year's, I have noted the poor quality of portrayal of brass and its potentially negative impact on the general public. By introducing a new view on brass musicians along with developing Vib, a contemporary news feed/blog, I intend to raise the profile to encourage members of the younger generation into the movement.
